Recipe of the Month

This month, we're thrilled to share the recipe for our Classic Margherita Pizza—a timeless favorite that embodies simplicity and flavor. The Margherita Pizza is a celebration of quality ingredients: fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, basil, and a perfect crust. It’s a dish that captures the essence of Italian cuisine and brings a taste of Naples right to your kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • For the Dough:

    • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
    • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
    • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 2 teaspoons salt
  • For the Topping:

    • 1 cup tomato sauce (preferably San Marzano tomatoes, crushed)
    • 1 1/2 cups fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
    • Fresh basil leaves
    • Extra virgin olive oil
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Making the Dough:

    • In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until the dough begins to come together.
    • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  2. Preparing the Pizza:

    • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
    • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and let them rest for about 10 minutes.
    • On a floured surface, roll out one dough ball into a 12-inch circle. Transfer the rolled dough to a piece of parchment paper for easy handling.
    • Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Arrange the sliced mozzarella cheese evenly on top.
    • Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.
  3. Finishing Touches:

    • Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
    • Let the pizza cool for a minute before slicing and serving.
